My father recently gave me a lot of tangerines from his ranch. I decided to make candied tangerine peels with them and juice the flesh of the fruit with carrots for morning meals (sometimes even dinners).
The entire process took a LONG time, but I did not want to waste them knowing I can make use of them. *SWEAT* I had to properly skin away the pith and boil the peels three times. I plan to use these peels for adding to dishes that I make such as orange chicken, so they will be a tasty and special addition.
On the subject of not wasting, did I mention I kind of like collecting jars? I am not a pack rat with collecting them, just have a few special ones that have real working purposes. Actually…the ones in these photos are from actual grocery shopping buys. The bear jar was for an organic jam which I am now using to store some of the candied tangerine peel and the milk jar is for storing sugar. I prefer storing foods in glass containers due to plastic actually releasing estrogen like chemicals. Not good!!! The softer the plastic the more harmful. Glass is the best way to go for food storing.
